7+ years of Vue experience in 2017

Have you ever seen a job post where company expects more years of experience in library / framework / language than it is possible?

Let me tell you about it!

While I was preparing documentation for my US green card, a lawyer, explained situation something like so (paraphrasing):

Write down all the experiences that you got before joining your current company in the US. We need this to submit a job post, compatible/identical to your experience. After about three to six months, we’ll have a proof, that we couldn’t find a US citizen to replace you. This way, you’ll get one of requirements for a green card.

I replied:

I have 10 years of professional software development experience. The technologies I used are: SQL, Java, Ruby/Rails, JavaScript and Vue.

Here lies a problem, as I wasn’t explicit enough to write down how many years I’ve been using each!

And only then I got a reply:

Right on. We also need to cut out the experience you got working at your current company (e.g. 3 years for me), which brings us to 7 years prior experience.

Just like that, few days after, I get a document titled “PERM Job Description” which included this section

Minimum requirements:

• 7 years of experience with SQL
• 7 years of experience with Java
• 7 years of experience with Ruby/Rails
• 7 years of experience with JavaScript
• 7 years of experience with Vue

Which, of course, was used for a job post without my prior knowledge. 🤦🏼‍♂️

spoiler: Vue was introduced in 2014, which means in 2017 even Evan You (creator) couldn’t have 7 years of prior experience with it
